Hatch fires back at Brown's grandstanding over tax cuts
While the House of Representatives has passed its version of a tax cut bill cutting rates for individuals and companies, over in the Senate, things got a bit testy during the Finance committee debate over that chamber's version of the bill. The video nearby shows a pointed exchanged between Sen. Orrin Hatch, the committee's chariman, and Democrat Sherrod Brown. Brown sought to make a number of brochure points about the bill, and that got the usually collegial Hatch downright mad.
We can expect more exchanges like this as the Senate pushes its bill to a floor vote (it passed the committee on a party line vote).
But we should also take note of the change in tone. It's not uncommon for the Senate to have its tense moments. But this one is worthy of remembering...because it showed that even courtly members like Hatch have had enough of the opposition's grandstanding. It could be a sign of things to come.
